Khon Kaen University holds the “5th month merit making and gratitude-paying to the elderly” event as an art and cultural conservation activity of 2021

April 8, 2021 – the Art, Culture, and Creative Economy Section and the Cultural Center of Khon Kaen University, joined by the art and culture network and cooperation of all organizations of Khon Kaen University organized the “heet kong Isan” activity to observe the graceful art and culture for the 5th month under the name the “5th month merit making and respect-paying to the elderly” at the Art and Culture Center on Si Than Lake. Honorable participants included Dr. Kurujit Nakornthap, a committee member of Khon Kaen University Council. Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University, Dr. Somsak Jungtrakoon Khon Kaen, Governor, KKU administrators, deans of various faculties, staff and students. The event featured paying respect to Luang Po Phra Sri 50th years, flower offering to 9 monks, sprinkling water on Phra Buddha Sil, paying gratitude to the elderly, etc. photographs and procession contests.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Niyom Wongpongkham, Vice President for Art, Culture, and Creative Economy said, “Khon Kaen University has allocated this area as the area for religious faith, thinking, and philosophy with an aim to enhance the spirit and moral support to the people. There are activities related to tradition and cultures arranged here. Today, the event has been organized from faith and cooperation of everyone, who has worked laboriously through the troublesome period. We pay respect to the elderly to show that we are grateful to them and to our mother and father, to those who have given us the goodness, to the institute, and to the nation. This action will make our lives prosper and happy. Moreover, the activity also denotes Khon Kaen University’s gracefulness and virtue.”

The activity began at 17:00 p.m. by the floating of Buddha Bucha and Nang Sangkarn of Khon Kaen University, which was led by the President, members of the University Council, administrators, lecturers, and the elderly. The next activity was the classical dancing by the students of the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, followed by the candle lighting ceremony, the citing of graceful words to Luang Po Phra Sri 50th year of KKU, water sprinkling on Buddha image, citing excuses to the elderly, sprinkling water on the elderly, flower offering to 9 monks, decorating the 12 naksat stupa. At the fair, there were also Isan local art and cultural performances, retro-music show from the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts. The event also observed Covid-19 preventive measures by the screening point before entering the fair.

The place was decorated beautifully with flowers and tungs and lights. There was the parade of classical dancers and 7 processions of Nang Sangkan passing the place. Staff and students lined up the roads to appreciate the processions while the committee rated and scored the processions and Nang Sangkan.

The winner of the contest was Miss Nakarin Jaitham (Ploy) a 4th year student majoring in visual arts from the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, who was awarded the prize by  Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University and his wife, Dr. Uanjit Panthongviriyakul. The winners of the procession were: the third prize: Faculty of Law, the second prize: Office of the President, and the first prize: Unicorn Team from the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts.
