COLA supports Nong Makhua TAO to submit Community Management Project to UNPSA 2020 Competition

COLA KKU supports Nong Makhua TAO to enter the Community Forest Management Project “Yu Dee Phroh Pa Yang, Pa Yang Phroh Khon Dee,” to UNPSA 2020 Competition

College of Local Administration of Khon Kaen University (COLA KKU) was contacted by Nong Makhua Sub-District Administrative Organization, Phon District, Khon Kaen through ML. Dechchai Supradit, Nong Makhua TAO President, that the TAO intends to enter the community forest management project entitled, “Yu Dee Phroh Pa Yang, Pa Yang Phroh Khon Dee,” to the competition organized by UNPSA 2020. This project has been selected by the Office of Permanent Secretary of the Prime Minister as a well-managed forest project with national outstanding innovation and can be a model for management of community forest problems or problems of encroachment and destruction so that the forest can be restored to the fertile condition and provides a good place for balance of forest use and forest conservation. The process of entering the competition needs academic support. Therefore, the TAO makes request for COLA to assist and prepare for the submission of the innovation to the UNPSA 2020 competition.

This is an important opportunity to join an academic-supporting network, to publicize local work outcomes, and to strengthen community power and local leadership with the aim to assist local development. The TAO was awarded the Local Organization Phra Pok Klao Prize in 2019 in the category of transparency and people participation promotion. COLA therefore sees the importance of this and for the opportunity of the college in learning chances. On November 17, 2019, COLA KKU, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Supawatanakorn Wongthanawasu, Dean and Dr. Kritchawat Lowatcharon, a COLA lecturer and Mr. Chalermpong Pongpracha, Head of the Office with a group of students made a trip to Pa Khok Huay Wang Saens area in Nong Makhua Sub-District, Phon District, Khon Kaen to sign an MOU with the TAO for developing community forest and prepare for the readiness in different aspects before the UN competition. The activity also answers the objective of COLA in “Building the basis of local administration towards the international level.”
