January 19-20, 2023 – Khon Kaen University held the 25th University Programs Exhibition and KKU OPEN HOUSE 2023 at the Golden Jubilee Convention Center, Khon Kaen University, which was attended by over 50,000 northeastern school students and teachers, who were looking for their future education opportunities.
January 19, 2023 at 08.45 a.m. – Khon Kaen University held the opening ceremony of the 25th University Programs Exhibition and KKU OPEN HOUSE 2023 at the Golden Jubilee Convention Center, Khon Kaen University. Roughly 90 institutions co-joined in the exhibition, whereas 1,300 schools and 49,613 school students and teachers in the Northeast had informed the organizer that they intended to come. 30,130 students applied to join the activities of the KKU Open House 2023, by registering online beforehand, and 5,415 students passed the criteria and were admitted to the open house activities. The event was organized, on January 19-20, 2023, under the collaboration of Khon Kaen University and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation.
Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University delivered the opening speech.
The opening ceremony on the first day began with the barrel-drum performance by the Faculty of Architecture. Next, Assoc. Prof. Maitree Inprasitha, Ph.D., Vice President for Education and Academic Service delivered the reporting speech about the background behind the 25th University Programs Exhibition and KKU OPEN HOUSE 2023. Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University then gave the opening speech. A great number of administrators, lecturers, staff, school teachers and students from schools in the Northeast, including some parents attended.
Assoc. Prof. Maitree Inprasitha, Ph.D., Vice President for Education and Academic Service reported that the University Programs Exhibition is an activity requested by the Office of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation for academic institutions in all regions to organize so that the various institutions can present their instructional and program information to school students and teachers. Attendants have the chance to study the programs of each institution from the exhibition and the school students will be able to make decision on their future studies at a university. In addition to the said objective, there are also key activities such as a special talk on “Digital Transcript and the Occupation Chances”. Khon Kaen University in this regard is among the first in producing digital transcript in Thailand. The use of digital transcript will proceed in accordance with the policy to become a Digital University of KKU. The participating students at the event received guidance from experts in choosing their field of studies and the faculty. In the afternoon, there is the KKU Open House activity to let the attendants see the instructional atmosphere of different faculties of Khon Kaen University. Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University mentioned in his opening speech that the University Programs Exhibition allows academic institutions and organizations to public relate the educational information to high school students and their teachers. This year, there were 90 institutions joining in organizing the exhibition and roughly 50,000 people applied to come so that they could directly ask information from each institution and could make their decision to continue their education at a university level. There were the open house activities of different faculties in Khon Kaen University for students to see the atmosphere of instruction of the faculty they were interested in. The President said that he was acknowledged that there are over a hundred thousand of high school students in the Northeast. Those who attended the event today would be able to relate about what they learned to their friends who did not come. Besides the exhibition, each institution and faculty has the website for students to search for more information and details for their later decision making, which will benefit the students in the future.
After the opening ceremony, there were a special talk on “Digital Transcript and Occupation Chances” by Asst. Prof. Denpong Soodphakdee, Ph.D., Vice President for Digital and on “Choosing the Faculty Is Deciding on Your Life: How to Choose the Faculty” by Asst. Prof. Anucha Somabutr, Ph.D., Vice Dean for Administration of the College of Graduate Study in Management. The talks were followed by performances of students from the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts and activities by the following institutions on the center stage until the event closed: Panyapiwat Institute of Management, Suan Dusit University, Nakhon Ratchasima College, Sukhothat Thmmathiraj University, and the Merchant Marine Training Center, Marine Department. There were the question and answer competition arranged by the College of Computing of Khon Kaen University, and more activities from the following institutions: Center for Innovation and Service of the Faculty of Engineering, Khon Kaen University, International College of Tourism, Rajabhat University Suratthani, Mahidol University, Sri Pathum University Khon Kaen Campus. The activity that ended the morning session was another question-answer competition. In the afternoon, from 13.00 – 16.00 p.m., the students who applied for KKU Open House 2023 visited their respective faculties.

On January 20, 2023, the event began at 08.45 a.m. with the barrel-drum performance from the Faculty of Architecture, followed by the activities by the following institutions: Maha Chulalongkorn Rachawittayalai University, Service Industry Management College, Suan Sunantha University, Faculty of Economics, Khon Kaen University (“Understand yourself from the faculty and field of interest” by Assoc. Prof. Jongrak Hongngam, Ph.D.), University of Thai Chamber of Commerce, Asian Maritime Technological College, Mahamakut Buddhist University Isan Campus, International College of Burapa University, College of Asian Scholars, Northeastern University, Faculty of Sciences of Khon Kaen University, Civil Aviation Training Center, Rajabhat University Loei, Walailak University, and International College of Khon Kaen University. The morning session ended with the question-answer competition. The afternoon session was from 13:00 until 16:00 p.m., with the students who applied for KKU Open House 2023 visiting different faculties that joined in arranging activities for the students.
This event was holistically evaluated by participants in 3 groups. The first group of school students said they were happy that Khon Kaen University organized this program exhibition, which made them learn a lot about the programs of each faculty at Khon Kaen University as well as other universities. They are able to plan for their future occupation. The second group of school teachers said that this is a good chance, for Khon Kaen University is a famous university in the Northeast. It is a good chance for students to obtain information and make decision on their studies in the future. The third group of cooperating institutions reported that it was good for school students to learn about the programs that they offer. Since this Open House has not been organized for a long time, the event benefits the students a lot. The institutions were impressed by the interest of students.
